What is the Slave Trade Triangle?
The first slaves to America went to Charles Town, South Carolina. Here slaves would be sold in auctions. The voyage began from Europe to Africa, this is known as the first passage. The cargo carried are guns and other weapons. The Africans were then traded for the guns. The Africans got sold the guns and then the African Slaves got on board the ships.
What is the Middle Passage?
The slaves were then shipped to the USA and processed for auction. The Middle Passage was the crossing from Africa to the Americas, which the ships made carrying their 'cargo' of Slaves. The Africans were treated very poorly, for example, The slaves were extremely claustrophobic as the Slaves were close to each other and treated like animals and they hardly had any food or water. The men were forced to dance and be manipulated.
What is the Third Passage
Once they arrived in America, they were sold to wealthy Slave owners. Once they were purchased they were branded and put to work in the fields. The life of a slave was exhausting and they would have to work all night and day. All the Cotton, Tobacco and other products are put back on ships and sent to Europe. Once the ships get to Europe, they are sold. This is known as the Third Passage. Then more guns and weapons are purchased. The guns got purchased and traded for the Slaves.
